Here's a great review/comparison of both, in case you're in the market.....

Oh, I like it because it can cut 12x12 paper and little scraps as well.

I started out using the cricut and I really, really loved it. I got a really great deal on the silhouette...so I bought one of those, unsure of whether I would like it or not...but, the one thing I really really like about the silhouette is you hook it right up to your computer. You can use any font you have on your computer and I have downloaded tons of fonts free off the internet and 'two peas in a bucket' website. You can also use any of the images you have in your clip art, you can also draw anything freehand and the silhouette will cut it out. With the cricut you have to purchase cartridges to use them...you can't do anything unless you have the cartridge of the font or image you want and it can become expensive. I do like the cricut becuase you can cut 12X12 paper. But the only delima I have had is having to cut an inch off my 12X12 paper to get the most out of each sheet. Not too big of a deal considering the fact that I don't have to purchase cartridges and the cricut that cuts 12X12 paper is quite pricey. As far as the minimum size, I cute my title for last month out on the silhouette (2"X4") it worked fine.
